Highlights from dOCUMENTA(13). Cevdet Erek

Cevdet Erek’s piece “Room of Rhythm” installed on the top floor of C&A was really enjoyable; partly because of the surreality of walking through gaudy coloured ski jackets into a cold industrial car park space filed with hypnotic beats, but also because the space itself was so interesting. The install was really minimal (a series of directional speakers, some gaffa tape on the walls) but the feeling of the room was mesmeric and engaging. The work has similarities to that of Pierre Huyghe in that it was a combination of the space and the work installed that made the piece so effective.
