Highlights from dOCUMENTA(13). Gerard Byrne

dOCUMENTA(13)

Gerard Byrne’s A man and a woman make love is a multi-screen video installation exhibited in the faded glory of a ballroom in a hotel in Kassel. The epicenter of the piece is the re-enactment of  a meeting of  Surrealists discussing and  investigating the field of eroticism. The edit of this work is really slick as the screens switch to different perspectives as the characters interact and we are presented with the mechanism of the work thorough a series of shots of the editing process in full swing. Though I enjoyed the piece the space (and particularly the light through the curtains) was also memorable.
